Understanding Taxonomy
What is a Taxonomy?
Think of a taxonomy as a collection of folders or tags used to sort your content into clear groups. Instead of randomly creating pages, you use specific Vocabulary lists (like document styles, sponsor types, or job titles) to tag your information so it can be easily filtered and found by visitors.
Accessing the Taxonomy Panel
- Hover your mouse over the Structure tab in the top admin toolbar.
- Select Taxonomy from the dropdown menu.
This page displays your core Vocabulary names and their brief descriptions.
Core Classification Lists Breakdown
1. Document Category
- What it is: This list groups all the primary downloadable resources and text items on your website.
- Key Categories: Policies, Forms, and Athletics are typical tags managed here.
2. Profile Category
- What it is: This list helps organize users, coaches, and board members based on their specific roles within your organization.
- Key Categories: Includes job assignments like Head Coaches, FIS Staff, U16 Staff, Devo Staff, President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
3. Sponsor Levels
- What it is: Used to define and classify club sponsorship levels (e.g., Gold, Silver, Bronze) so partner logos show up properly in designated layout sections.
4. Tags
- What it is: Flexible, site-wide keywords used to group related news articles or blog posts under unified topics.
How to Rearrange and Edit Terms
Moving and Reordering Items
If you want to alter the order of elements or nest a sub-category under a parent category:
- Click Edit terms next to any of the vocabulary lists.
- Click and hold the four-directional cross icon (+) located to the left of the term's name.
- Drag the item up or down to change its sequence.
- Slide an item slightly to the right to turn it into a sub-category of the item sitting directly above it.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page to apply the formatting updates.
Editing Specific Categories
- To rename an item or update its specific parameters, click the Edit button in the Operations column right next to that item's name.
